Most singers walk into auditions trying to be liked.
The singers who get remembered walk in knowing exactly what they’re there to communicate.
In this seminar, GRAMMY® nominated baritone and director Johnathan McCullough reframes the audition not as an evaluation, but as a performance opportunity. Drawing on years of experience on both sides of the table, this session breaks down how casting panels actually listen, decide, and remember singers, and how small shifts in mindset, preparation, and presentation can dramatically change outcomes.
By taking part in this class, young artists will learn a clear, repeatable audition framework they can use for schools, companies, competitions, and summer programs. They will also gain practical tools for preparation that reduce anxiety and increase confidence with a sharper understanding of how to stand out without trying to impress.
This seminar is offered in partnership with The Foundry Recording Studio and is recommended for high school, college students, and emerging professionals in Classical Voice and Musical Theater preparing for conservatory programs, summer festivals, competitions, or professional auditions.
Immediately following the seminar, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in Mock Auditions.
These optional sessions allow singers to step directly into a simulated audition environment and apply the framework and mindset shifts discussed in the seminar. Participants will perform for a panel of experienced professionals and receive thoughtful, constructive feedback on presentation, repertoire choices, communication, and overall impact. In addition to the feedback, you will receive an audio and video recording of your audition for your review.
This is a rare opportunity to test what you’ve just learned in a supportive, real-world setting — refining your approach, strengthening your confidence, and gaining clarity on how you are truly being perceived in the room.
Mock audition spots are limited and available by advance sign-up.
